Miguel leaned against the wall, looking around the destroyed home. Luke came to finally, and Bubba helped him up. Miguel didn't hear their conversation, but knew that he'd been pointed at and probably named. The woman who appeared to be a medic walked over to him. Calixta put her ears back. Miguel elbowed her.
The woman gave the horse a weird look as she spoke to him. "Are you Miguel?"
Miguel grinned. "Sí. Cuál es su nombre?"
"Oh! Um... Me llamo Lola."
"Lola... Un nombre muy bonito. Cómo estás?"
"Muy bien... Y tú?"
"Todo va de maravilla... Pero, yo soy demasiado viejo por esto."
Lola stared at Miguel as she tried to understand what he'd said. Miguel sighed. "You speak inglés..."
"I can speak some Spanish but... I'm not really fluent," Lola answered with a shrug.
"I'm fine. Just old," Miguel answered with a good humored wink and chuckle.
"Oh... I see. So um... I take this is your horse? She's very pretty."
Calixta snorted angrily. Miguel yanked on the reins. "Sí. This is Calixta... My very jealous, over-protective horse. I recommend that you just... Avoid her. Especially her hooves. She can be pretty murderous given the opportunity."
Lola paled a bit. "Oh... I see..." She stepped back.
Miguel elbowed Calixta again. "Está tú felís ahora?" Calixta snorted again and nuzzled against him. "Me saca de quicio! Pero, te amo..." Seeing Bubba and Luke fix the hole in the wall, Miguel decided to check out the upper floor for holes or anything that would be of use to them.

Luke limped to the living room and eased himself into a chair. Why did he put himself in these kinds of situations? Pulling his pistol from his coat, the light reflecting off the gold plate, he emptied it and put in a fresh clip. Luke set his pistol on the end table next to him as Bubba walked over to Luke, his rifle in hand.
"I found this out 'dere in the street." Luke took it from Bubba, whispering a soft thank you before reloading it was well. Bubba knelt in front of Luke as he worked, concern lined his face. "You sure you alright suh?"
"Yeah. I'm fine Bubba. Took a bit more of a beating than I had bargained for." At that point, Miguel walked upstairs and Lola joined them, he face slightly flushed. "What happened to you?"
Lola jumped slightly, obviously absorbed in her own thoughts. "Wha? Oh, nothing. Miguels fine, no injuries."
"Well I'll be damned. Hardly a scratch on him, and I walk away with broken bones?" Luke laughed heartily and slapped his knee. "That cheeky bastard!"

Miguel explored the upstairs nonchalantly. He left Calixta downstairs... He could only pray that the action wouldn't end badly. There were few rooms upstairs. The hallway was fairly wide and there was a little 'library' section with five bookcases. A good portion of the books had been knocked off and were scattered all over the floor. Miguel shook his head sadly. A good portion of the books were children's books... Meaning quite obviously that there had been several children here at some point. That's when he heard someone crying very, very softly. Curious and worried, he started checking the five rooms.
Three clearly belonged to older children. They were empty and filled with more mature and sophistcated things. One was the child's... Made obvious by the stuffed animals, the plethera of toys and massive amount of pink.
"Una chicita..." The last room as down the hallway. All over there were zombies and it appeared that the couple and perhaps even the children had made their final stand. As he got closer the crying got just a little louder. He opened the door carefully. It was very dark. Miguel stood still as he let his eyes adjust to the gloom. He could just barely see the sillouette of a small someone kneeling and rocking on the floor.
Miguel started to say something, but he heard a very tiny gasp. The small form looked up at him and he was faced with glowing red eyes. Miguel shut the door quickly and quietly descending the stairs. Alcohol was a great way to keep the nerves calm.
Luke was sitting in a chair reloading his weapons and barking orders, Bubba was beside him for the most part. Miguel stood off the side, debating the way to say explain this one.
Luke saw him. "Miguel, we need lookouts and watchmen... Was there anything upstairs?"
"Well... Sí and no."
"What do you mean?"
Miguel scratched his head and then shrugged expressively. "Eeh... Well, all the zombies were dead. It appears that the former inhabitants of this house died defending it.. ..."
Luke gave him an impatient look. "Out with it, Miguel. Cut the bullshit and just get to the point."
Miguel sighed and cut right to the chase. "There's a zombie girl, upstairs, crying."
"What?"

"It was crying and it had red eyes-" Luke brushed past him, pistol in hand. Lola was at his heels.
"Luke you need to rest, your injuries," Luke brushed her off and proceeded upstairs slowly. He stopped at the top and whispered down to the others. "Keep everyone down here. Bubba, if this thing gets me, you're in charge." Luke turned to Miguel and addressd him. "Where is it?"
"Last door down the hallway amigo." Miguel said solemnly. Luke quickly climbed the last few steps and made his way through the upper level. As he approached the room, he heard soft crying. Luke took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. These were the hardest for him to kill.
"Hush little baby, don't you cry," Luke turned the door handle slowly, "This will be over quickly, I promise," He opened the door and quickly scanned the room. His eyes rested on a small form sitting in the middle of the room. It gasped slightly and turned to face him with blood red eyes. It then screamed and lept into the air. Luke raised his pistol and fired once into its chest. The Doll smacked against the wall on the opposite side of the room and started to cry in anger. Luke walked briskly over to it and shot it twice more. The crying stopped.
Luke walked back downstairs to the others. Lola was the first to speak.
"Did you?" Luke nodded. "Yeah...I got it." Gesturing to two men with hunting rifles, he said, "Their are windows upstairs where you can cover the street on either side. Get up there." The Survivors nodded and walked upstairs. Luke slumped back down into his chair, a single tear rolled down his cheek.

The other people busied themselves and left Luke to his misery. Miguel hesitated for a bit, but decided "y que?" (what the hell).
He went over by Luke, not missing the tear. "You have dealt this something like this before, si?"
"Yeah... They're called Dolls..."
"Mm... Are they always poor, innocent children?" Luke nodded. Miguel stuck his hands in his pockets and shrugged a little. "Well, if it's any consolation- I couldn't kill a Doll. You've got me there."
"It ain't easy."
"Sí, but it'd be impossible for me... ..." Luke gave him a weird look. Miguel smiled and started to walk away. "Well, I'm going to go and see if there's not a good place to keep Calixta... Or if I can get her to simply leave my side... Cabella tonta." On the other side of the room, Calixta snorted at him, as if to say 'I heard that'.
